If spring turns a man’s thoughts to love then summer surely must be the season of beer.

And each year in Toronto, we look forward to an event that brings the best suds to the city — the Festival of Beer.

For three glorious days from Friday, July 26 through Sunday, July 28, experts of craft brewing and beer lovers from around the world will descend on Toronto’s Bandshell Park in Exhibition Place to sample, savour and celebrate. This year, more than 200 beer brands will be represented so there is definitely something for everyone.

Here are six things we’re looking forward to as we count down to the Festival of Beer:

6. The App – Replacing the previous festival pocket guide is a new eco-friendly mobile app for iPhone and Android. An interactive map will help you find what you’re looking for, plus you’ll have the schedule at your fingertips, can log your tasting notes and keep track of all your favourites. You can also use the app to vote for your Top 3 brewers and, in doing so, enter into a draw to win two tickets to the Festival of Beer ... for LIFE!

5. Grilling Tent – Come for the beer, stay for the beer but don’t forget to check out the food at the Grilling Tent, which features a lineup of celebrity talent that includes TORO friends Matt Basile of Fidel Gastro and Lisa Marie, Matt Dean Pettit of Rock Lobster and former Top Chef Canada contestant Rory White along with BBQ guru Ted Reader and other notables.

4. Music – No outdoor festival would be complete without a music lineup and this year’s has got all the retro bases covered with De La Soul, Spindoctors and Big Sugar headlining the Main Stage – three acts sure to keep things hopping.

3. Brewmaster Series Pavillion – Check out the daily lineup of events created in partnership with The Niagara College Teaching Brewery. Hey, who couldn’t benefit from enhancing their beer IQ? The lineup of information sessions includes everything from food and beer pairings to Beer 101 and hops basics to Belgian gluten free ales.

2. World of Beer Pavilion – Dedicated to a different region each year, this time around we toast West Coast North America with beers from B.C., Washington, California and Oregon. Hm, why does this leave us thinking laid-back and mellow? Anchoring the B.C. contingent are Central City Brewing Company, makers of Red Racer Beer, and Granville Island Brewery, home to Robson Street Hefeweizen.
