DAILY TORO

What would make you change your mind about global warming? Weeks of unseasonably cold temperatures and unparalleled levels of snow accumulation, perhaps.
According to a recent poll in the U.K., skepticism about climate change is on the rise. A BBC News story compares poll results from a November 2009 survey with the latest figures from a similar poll:
"The Populus poll of 1,001 adults found 25 per cent did not think global warming was happening, an increase of 10 per cent since a similar poll was conducted in November.
"The percentage of respondents who said climate change was a reality had fallen from 83 per cent in November to 75 per cent this month."
Professor Bob Watson, a scientific advisor for the U.K. Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs proclaimed alarm over the shift, fearing that it will inhibit efforts to shift to "a low carbon economy."
Of course, this survey was conducted against the backdrop of what's being called the worst winter since 1981-82.
Given that the Met Office is calling for a warm, dry summer, we'll see how popular opinion shifts once again as respondents are hit by soaring temperatures come July.
