Our friends at Good are reporting that Beastie Boy and samaritan extraordinaire Mike D is operating a free food truck for victims of Hurricane Sandy.

You can watch a video about the project below.

Since October, Rockaway Plate Lunch has handed out over 19,000 hot meals to residents of Rockaway Beach.

Mike D (nee Diamond) partnered with hotel owner and restaurateur Robert McKinley and Chef Sam Talbot on the project.

"We saw all these people living without any power, without any businesses being open, and therefore, no food," Diamond told Good. "We saw the immediate need for warm food, but we didn’t have time to put together a long-term cohesive plan, we just had to react quickly."

The menu includes marinated chicken, white rice, and black beans.

Rockaway Plate Lunch eventually plans to be a non-profit that will teach local youth about cooking and the food industry.
