Artists for Peace and Justice held their annual intimate backyard lunch fundraiser at the University of Toronto president's estate yesterday, co-hosted by Paul Haggis, Jude Law, Trudie Styler and George Stroumboulopoulos. K’naan, members of Arcade Fire, Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace and Chantal Kreviazuk took to the stage at the fundraiser, which helped to raise $550,000 and awareness for APJ.
“Artists for Peace and Justice was launched during the Film Festival in Toronto four years ago to help the children of the slums of Haiti, the poorest country in the western hemisphere. Two years later, the devastating earthquake robbed the people of what little they had,” shares APJ Founder and Oscar-winning filmmaker Paul Haggis. “Since then we have made great strides, but the need is still immense. We really appreciate everything guests have done to help us bring higher education and hope to the children of the slums of Haiti, who all deserve an equal chance at success.”
