HOW EVIDENCE BASED PRACTICE CAN HELP KEEP HEALTHCARE COSTS DOWN

Recent studies by Rutgers Online and its online MPA program revealed that the US healthcare system spends more than the average OECD countries – including Canada – are spending on diagnostics and expensive examinations.

While the goal of these examinations is to understand the situation better, some of them – such as an MRI in certain cases – are not always necessary. This is where Evidence Based Practice or EBP comes in.

Evidence Based Practice helps medical practitioners analyze a patient’s healthcare situation without relying heavily on expensive medical imaging machines and other procedures. More information and data are taken into consideration to come to the same conclusion without spending as much money in the process. The use of EHRs (Electronic Health Records) are in line with the implementation of EBP too, since it allows practitioners to have more historic data to work with.

You can learn more about EBP from the Using Evidence-Based Practices to Improve Healthcare in the United States infographic by http://online.rutgers.edu/.
