Hockey news continues on the free agent front as we look back to July 1978, when a teenaged Wayne Gretzky inked a multi-million dollar pact with the Indiana Racers of the World Hockey Association. At 17, he was the youngest player in the WHA, in contrast to veteran Gordie Howe, the oldest man in the short-lived hockey league. The two were photographed at the Plaza Hotel on July 5, 1978 for The New York Times.
